Trevor Linden was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, and shone in multiple sports throughout his school years, including ice hockey, baseball, volleyball, basketball, golf, and speed skating. He was offered a scholarship to Princeton University for both his academic work as well as for his skill on the ice, however he decided to play for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL instead. He was the 2nd draft pick complete in the 1988 NHL Draft. He went to play superb ice hockey for the Vancouver Canucks from 1988-1998, however a change in direction led to his being traded. His amount of play improved once back together with the Canucks. He retired in 2008, after establishing or matching multiple franchise records. The franchise made a decision to retire his number.
