His first novel A Piece of My Heart was printed in 1976. His second novel The Greatest Good Luck was printed in 1981. Ford retired from composing fiction and became a writer for Inside Sports magazine. When the magazine folded he went back to fiction and composed The Sportswriter. It had been named one of Time magazine’s finest five books of 1986 and was a finalist for the PEN/Faulker Prize for Fiction. Ford authored The Lay of the Land in 2006, Canada in the year 2012, and I Would Like To Be Honest With You in 2014. He’s also released the story sets Rock Springs, Girls with Men: Three Stories, Numerous Sins, and Classic Ford. He was given the Andrew Carnegie Media for Excellence in Fiction for Canada along with the Prix Femina Etranger for Canada in 2013.
