His film debut came in 1970’s They Call Me Mister Tibbs!. He had a recurring character on the TV series One Day at a Time from 1976 to 1980. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series because of his part in Magnum, P.I. in 1984, 1985, and 1986 before ultimately winning the award in 1987. His last appearance came in A Very Brady Sequel in 1996.
