Uecker was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up observing the minor league Milwaukee Brewers at Borchert Field. Throughout the span of his career, he played catcher for three distinct teams, the Braves (both Milwaukee and Atlanta), the Cardinals, and the Phillies. He was a below-average hitter, but was usually a sensible defensive player who perpetrated very few mistakes during his Major League career as a catcher. His final Major League match was in 1967 for the Atlanta Braves. He’s also appeared in a series of advertisements throughout his career , and it has made appearances in television shows like Mr. Belvedere, Who Is the Boss, D.C. Follies, and LateLine. He’s received several awards throughout his career, including being inducted to the National Radio Hall of Fame. He’s known for his self-depricating sense of humor and Johnny Carson gave him the nickname “Mr. Baseball” that adhered, as he’s still known for that name now. He was married to his wife, Judy for twenty five years as well as the couple had four kids, but unfortunately, in 2012, the couple divorced.
