Salles’ late dad, Walther Moreira Salles, was the creator of Unibanco, a Brazilian bank that merged with Banco Itau in 2008. Now, Itau Unibanco SA is the 2nd largest bank in Brazil and Joao Moreira Salles is among the biggest individual stockholders of Itau Unibanco SA. The reason supporting the foundation is forwarding and development of cultural undertakings in the areas of photography, literature, libraries, visual arts, and Brazilian music.
