Thurber was known for his short stories and cartoons that have been printed in The New Yorker magazine and were also rolled up into numerous publications. He was known for celebrating the eccentricities of regular folks. Thurber wrote the Broadway comedy The Male Animal along with his pal Elliott Nugent as well as the show was afterwards made into a movie starring Henry Fonda. Thurber won a special Tony Award for the altered script of A Thurber Carnival. James Thurber passed away on November 2, 1961 at 66 years old.
